I think I scared off a guy once...

... with this reply to a message he sent:

I totally understand what you mean about the pressure. When you put pressure on yourself, you end up not being who you really are which is not fair for either party.

I find that I tend to be a sort of "go with the flow" and "let's see what happens next" type of person. It could be because I am in no hurry. I'm not trying to find somebody for the sake of finding someone. I'm not out to find someone because my biological clock is telling me to. I'm content to take my time in finding the right person.

As for whether there's chemistry or clicking between two people, how can you really tell in 5 minutes if it's going to work or not? Perhaps the other person is nervous or is at a loss for words? The formula may not work for everyone. For instance, I know that I tend to be quiet at first when I meet someone (anyone for that matter) until I know the person a bit more and then would I open myself up more. At least, that's how I operate.

Perhaps it's the cynic in me, but I wonder sometimes just how we know if we're truly compatible or not with another person. I don't think it's an exact science. When it comes to matters of the heart, I don't think it's something that can easily be quantified.

There will always be risks to take in life, both major and minor. Life would be rather boring if one were able to take full control of it. ;-)

Week 35, Saturday

We went for dim sum. We walked around downtown and the "Underground City". The sidewalks did not cave in. We bought some sirloin steaks and grilled them on the BBQ.

Mom and Dad like the Sumo beanbag. BS woke me up at 5 this morning.

I sent a text message to the guy just a little while ago. I don't know if he will get it, when he will get it, or if he will reply to it.

While waiting..

.. for the folks to arrive...

*sigh* I think he'll always be one of my favorite actors. He doesn't try to be a ladies' man. He doesn't intentionally try to be the hero. He's there. :-)

Week 35, Friday

Finally! A long weekend! Albeit, I will have to entertain the folks while they visit this weekend, but it's a long weekend nonetheless.

I really don't have much planned for my folks other than perhaps some dim sum, some shopping around and maybe dinner out. Pretty standard stuff, really.

In other exciting news, I'm contemplating whether I should give this guy a call tonight or wait until Monday after the folks have left. He's a guy who sent me a message on Y! Personals. I dunno. He seems nice enough. Not bad looking. He's got a cute cat. So far we've exchanged a couple of messages on Y!.

Hmm.. I guess I just haven't been doing this sort of thing enough to know what to do any more! :-p Oh I am just absolutely pathetic sometimes. H at work think I'm pretty brave when I mention I'm going to go off on some social gathering with total strangers. Or if I had made contact with someone that I was going to go have coffee with them or something.

Funny... I wonder what would have happened if Blue Sh*t hadn't gotten diarrhea the week I was suppose to have that dinner date?

Week 35, Thursday

The CIM has been down for a while now. I miss chatting with some of the folks. Not everyone can use MSN or other chat programs when they're at work. So in a way, the CIM was a way around it. Oh well. Maybe later today.

Meanwhile, I had my follow-up appointment with the doc on Tuesday. All the test results came back with good. The only thing that is an issue is the blood pressure. I guess I just need to focus on trimming down and get into better shape to try to get this under control and off the meds. I have another appointment in December to follow-up on this.

I've really got to get my butt in gear and fill out the passport renewal form. At least, I did get my photos done on Friday. I will aim to get my renewal submitted by end of next week. I really hope the turn around is quick. :p I still need to get a Visa for China! Ack!

Bro and I need to check out hotels in Hong Kong. He found one that seems reasonable. I guess when the folks are up here this weekend we can discuss it and maybe, hopefully, book something. They still haven't gotten the plane tickets yet, and neither have I. I try to keep an eye on the price of the itinerary I've put together. I need to make sure that it doesn't fluctuate too much between now and when I do get around to buying it.

Week 35, Tuesday

I came across this article. For some reason it's not too surprising, although I remember seeing a programming on the fattening of American and how they focused on Texas. It also evokes images of Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazard. You might argue about stereotypes, but when the evidence is right in front of you, then what?

I remember there was a discussion once about the health care system in the US and Canada. I sided with preventative medicine based on what I believe is that if you can catch it early on, it would cost less in the long run to treat. This is versus if you sat on something until it's so obvious you have to do something about it that it would end up costing more to treat. I think that when it comes to obesity, making the effort early on to change habits and to shed the excess weight will probably cost less further down the road. Of course, this goes without saying that this would also require educating people on the benefits of better diet and habits.

Interesting Life

I like the philosophy behind this.

Week 35, Monday

Another work week begins. The cat wakes me up minutes before my alarm goes off. I hate this, but I manage to ignore the cat until my alarm actually goes off. Even then, I don't get up right away. The bed is so nice and comfy. I also want to keep my eyes closed for just a little longer. Eventually, I had to get up.

I had a dentist appointment this morning. It was a good thing I decided to call for an appointment last week after one of my molars exhibited some sensitivity to cold stuff. As it turned out, and I think I mentioned this already, a small filling fell out yesterday afternoon while I was munching on some Wheat Thins. It was rather annoying feeling that hole in my tooth. I ended up chewing my food on the right side last night.

The trip to the dentist was relatively painless. Well, except for when he injected the Novacaine, or whatever it is they use these days to freeze up the area around which they plan to work on. It's been a long while since I last had a filling done. It seems that there are new materials and methods used for fillings now. Instead of that silvery metallic stuff, my dentist used this polymer instead. Rather interesting. It's also colored like your tooth so it doesn't look like you have a filling there. Nice. In the end, the filling cost about $138. thank goodness my insurance covered 100% of that. :p

Meanwhile, some random thoughts run through my mind this morning. Maybe it's the romantic in me, but sometimes I wonder if I will somehow bump into someone and there's a spark somewhere. Yeah, I think it's just the romantic in me. It's the kind of stuff that you would normally see in the movies or read about in paperback novels. Just how often do these chance encounters really happen in real life without some sort of "assistance"?

There are days when I'm a little bummed out over my current status. That usually doesn't last very long as I will eventually get distracted by something I need to work on or some other thing. Most of the time, I'm alright, really. I figure that as long as I am happy with myself and content to do my own thing, then what have I really got to worry? I have a few good friends that I can hang out with from time to time. I'm constantly trying to find ways to improve myself either mentally or physically. OK, so there will be days when I slack off, but I do make the effort.

Elsewhere, I got a message from a guy I had taken some classes with at Concordia. I'm a little hesitant to sign up for classroom courses again, but maybe just one course might be doable. I'm looking at the Intro to Flash to start with. Looks interesting. It's being taught by an instructor I've had before. The time is right. Today is also the last day for early registration. I'll probably make a decision after lunch.

Self reminder

I keep forgetting to enter these figures in a file I'm maintaining of my BP readings.

@0530 112/78 80
@2035 121/80 82

Not bad so far.

Week 35, Sunday

Okay, so I didn't quite get as much as I hoped done today. I could blame it on this headache I have... I did take a little nap earlier in the afternoon. Then, at some point this afternoon, I'm snacking on some Wheat Things when the filling that's been bothering me falls out. *sigh* Well, at least I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, this video came to mind recently. Sometimes you feel inspired to watch such things. Enjoy!

Fresh air and exercise?

In an effort to get myself out of the house and get more exercise, I came across a flyer in the mail for this. I figure, what the heck! What have I got to lose. And for the cost ($173 total for the Fall session, max. 2 classes/week), it's not bad. It sure beats whatever the local gyms and workout emporiums are charging. So, I hope this works out!

Today is a sort of lazy Saturday I guess. I did go out earlier to run a few errands. I feel like cooking up a few things this week that I haven't cooked in a long while, so I picked up some stuff for that at the local asian super market. Plus, I needed a bag of rice. It's nice to have this place nearby. It saves me the trip of having to go all the way to Chinatown for some stuff.

Anyway, I need to decide what I feel like cooking up tonight...

Week 34, Saturday

I think it was a good thing I went ahead and made a dentist appointment for Monday morning. It seems that a filling in one of the upper molars may be on the way out. this kinda sucks because it makes more wary of how I'm chewing my food. Depending on what it is, I find that I need to chew on my right side more just to avoid getting things caught on this rough bit I feel on the tooth. *sigh*

Otherwise, today I'm just going to run a few errands and clean up a bit. The parents and bro are coming up next weekend, so I really need to get a jumpstart on the cleaning and tidying up. :p

Week 34, Friday!

This is the Quote of the Day that came up on my iGoogle page:
I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change.
- Dan Quayle

Rather scary, don't you think?

So the guys (2 of them) came over last night to help me with my dryer. We pulled it out so that we can access the duct. It didn't look too blocked up. I realized that I could open up the part where the lint filter goes in. I opened it, took a look and saw quite a bit of build-up there, but it wasn't totally blocked up. I cleaned that out as well. R took the grill off on the back of the dryer. It looked clear there as well. We threw in a wet towel I had just laundered to see how it ran. After about 10 minutes, we could see that there was air blowing out from the duct. But occasionally we'd hear some hesitation from another fan somewhere. We reconnected the duct and put the dryer back in place. We ran the dryer again. The top of the dryer felt quite a bit hotter than before. I pulled the dryer out a little and the duct connecting to the dryer popped off. D'oh! In any case, the dryer was still getting a bit too hot.

Putting the closet door back in properly took a good half hour. For some reason the screw to secure the top hinge required a lot of torque to properly tighten.

Meanwhile, after all that, it seems that something inside the dryer might be broken or malfunctioning. R and K want to come back another time to open up the dryer to have a look. I said, not tonight! So I guess I'll have plan for the next adventure in appliance repair!

Week 34, Wednesday

Today, I actually had a decent day at work. How's that? Well, I felt that I was actually doing something productive and got to learn a few things. So I left the office today with a feeling of accomplishment. :-)

Meanwhile, here I am lying in bed. I turn on the TV and it happens to be on OLN. Pilot Guides is on. The host is in Florence. Ahhh... I really liked Florence. One day I'd like to visit Florence again. Maybe my heart wasn't totally there when I was in Italy in May. I guess at times I almost felt a bit mopey. Not good, I know. Anyway, I think I did enjoy the trip for the most part. The people in the group I travelled with were all nice and friendly people. So I guess I really can't complain.

Anyway, I've got a buddy from work to come over tomorrow to give me a hand with my dryer issue. Hopefully, it can be resolved without my having to call and pay someone to fix the problem. We'll see.

Week 34, Monday

*YAWN!* Yeah, Monday.

Okay, so I had my hair taken care of finally today. If you have Facebook or are a contact on Flickr, you can see how it came out. So far the comments have been good. :)

Meanwhile, I finally took a few pics of the sexy keyboard...

Week 33, Saturday

Okay, I'm kinda boycotting that one dating site again this week. Again I am going through the phase of just getting frustrated with that site. It just stresses me, pisses me off, distracts me and aggravates me. So there. Let's see how long it lasts this time. Those sites so easily sucks up so much of your time. Before you know you wonder where the hell the time has gone and you don't have time to do anything else. It just takes too much energy sometimes.

Last night, I went out with a couple of the guys from work for a beer after work. We went to Brutopia. It was cool. I had the Cubano sandwich which I find quite tasty. And it was quite filling too! :p I had a pint each of the honey and honey brown. Then in the end I had a half pint of the raspberry which had an artificial taste to it. I don't think I'll have that one again.

I got home around half past midnight to the sounds of a screaming and hungry cat. Needless to say I had to feed BS. I dorked around a bit before going to bed. I think I hit the hay around 1:30. Before 5AM, BS started to harass me to get fed. It's as if he was on a schedule or something. I finally managed to keep him at bay at least until 7:30. It's now about 11AM and it seems that he would like a late morning snack. Uhm, no, I don't think so. I don't want to spoil him too much.

My friend J did a Tarot card reading for me the other day. I won't mention too much what the question was but the part that sort of described the current situation was rather accurate. Hmm.. I'll have to re-visit the reading at some point. I've always been a bit torn when it comes to these things. Never really sure how much of it to believe. Anyway...

Week 33, Friday

BP this morning: 118/78

I got my sexy keyboard yesterday. It's so much more slim than the white Apple keyboard. I'll have to take a pic for comparison. The feel of it is not bad. I kinda like it! Ahhh! Sometimes it's the little things in life that make you happy.

BS seems to be doing alright. However, he's been so demanding when it comes to feeding time. He wants his canned food NOW. Well, he's going to have to wait a bit longer tonight because I plan on going out tonight after work for a couple of beers. BS will have to be happy with the regular dry kibble until I get home. :p

Other than the keyboard, I think I have been okay when it comes to spending. However, I am not looking forward to seeing the vet charges on the next MC bill. :p *sigh* Just can't win sometimes. I might have to take another chunk from savings next month to pay it down some more.

Anyway...

Meanwhile...

I thought this was just too damn sexy to pass up. I ordered it Friday. It hasn't shipped yet.

BP reading this AM: 117/78. Not bad. My morning readings have been pretty consistent so far. I keep forgetting to take my reading later in the day to see how that's going. I'll have to try to remember tonight after I get home.

Last night, I made a batch of black beans and rice. I cooked some salmon to go with it. I cut up some fruit for some fruit salad. I had bought some local blueberries, but I wasn't too impressed with them. I think tonight I need to eat some salad. I need more vegetable intake. :p

I nearly had a fit last night when I checked the price of an itinerary I had saved on Expedia. It gave me a price of just over $4000!! I was like, "WTF?!?!" When I first put this itinerary in (YUL-HKG-PVG-NRT-YUL) it quoted me about $1666. I ranted to my brother about it. Afterwards, I looked again and noticed that for some reason the departure date was November 18th. I thought I had saved it as November 17th. I changed it and updated the price for that itinerary. It came back as $1656. WHEW! But I think I will definitely need to look into purchasing this flight very soon before I get hit with that kind of whammy again! :-p

In the meantime, I need to start hunting for hotels in Hong Kong. Since I'm pretty sure I'll have some place to stay in Shanghai and Tokyo, I think I can afford to pay for my folks' room in HK. I just need to find something decent for under $100.

Bleh! :p

When too much is too much?

I thought this was rather interesting.

I like to drink coffee myself. I think the most I've ever had in ONE day was maybe 4 cups. But again, that was during the course of a day. I don't think caffeine affects me the same way as other people. I don't find that it "perks" me up. What I think it will do to me is interrupt my sleep pattern if I have some late enough in the day. Otherwise, if I'm feeling tired and sleepy, I will still feel tired and sleepy. I just like the taste of coffee.

Now double espressos on the other hand. That's got a bit more kick, I think.

Quickie summation

I feel a bit lazy today to give much of an update.

I picked up BS on Saturday. They retested him. The urea came back closer to within normal range. The creatine however was still slightly higher than the normal range. This could indicate the start of kidney problems. I'm not too worried. Just have to feed BS alright and hopefully things will be stable.

BS was squawking a lot this weekend. I don't think he was happy with his incarceration at the vet's. He didn't eat much during the day there but ate everything they left him at night when it was quiet. What a fraidy cat! The vet prescribed him some medication to take for 6 days. I googled it and it seems that this is what they would probably give for diarrhea of unknown origin. Fun. BS's appetite has not waned. He's pretty much eaten everything I put in front of him. Haven't seen much output from him since Saturday. I'll give it another day for his system to process his intake. :-p

Meanwhile, for some reason, I was just not feeling overly motivated this weekend. Especially on Sunday. I had wanted to go to the Hash but changed my mind. I didn't get a whole lot done on Saturday after I picked up BS. I did go see the Harry Potter movie with some friends in the evening, but that was pretty much it.

Bleah.. It's Monday!
